The Best of Northern Italy
The day tour starts when you meet your English-speaking guide in central Milan. From there, a private air-conditioned coach will take you to the Lake Como cruise. Your guide will stay with you all the way to Bellagio and then you are free to explore on your own before heading on to the charming alpine town of Lugano. On this relaxing trip, you’ll soon discover why this magical region is known as a “celebrity playground”. All in one day!
Picture Perfect Lake Como
The best way to experience Lake Como is by boat. A 2-hour cruise will allow you to view this tranquil landscape from the water. As you float by, your guide will point out famous villas used as locations for Star Wars and James Bond movies along with the homes of international stars like George Clooney. You’ll also have plenty of time to take pictures or just take in the view with a refreshment from the onboard restaurant.
Bellagio: the Pearl of Lake Como
The famed village of Bellagio, the “pearl of Lake Como”, is where you come ashore. Your guide will be on hand if you need some ideas for exploring this idyllic spot. They can direct you to the best shopping and food, or feel free to wander the cobbled lanes and discover your own hidden gems! Most people prefer to stretch their legs and take the time to breathe in the clear alpine air and elegant atmosphere. Once you’ve had plenty of time for photos, you’ll climb aboard the private coach once again and cross the border to the Swiss town of Lugano.
Travelling to Lugano takes only one hour across stunning scenery and your guide will be on hand again to fill you in on the sights. Once you reach this lakeside Swiss city at the foot of the alps you will see why they call it the “Monte Carlo of Switzerland”. It attracts celebrities, athletes and entertainers with its breath-taking panoramas and elegant shopping. Once again you have the time to explore boutique shops full of rich Swiss chocolate and fine goods. Those who prefer to sample Renaissance culture can make their way to the Santa Maria degli Angioli Church on the waterfront. Inside you can feast your eyes on the magnificent ‘Passion and Crucifixion’ fresco which was created by Da Vinci’s apprentice, Bernardino Luini.
Finally, the bus will whisk you back to Milan in time for evening dinner. All that remains is for you to reflect on the sights you’ve seen and the memories you’ve made.
